In Doctor Who magazine, not too long ago, Moffat said that the companion should always be female, because it’s important that the show have “a female voice.” Oddly, he doesn’t seem to think that that voice could be a female Doctor.
That voice could also be in the form of a female showrunner…
But then she might hire female writers! New Who fans aren’t ready for that, unless they’ve read…any fan fiction over the last 50 years.
And when the New Adventures writers were being vetted to write for the new show, “somehow” none of the women made the grade.
