    Musicians lose far, far more to the record companies as “the normal way of doing business” than they’ll ever lose to piracy. (If selling an album gains the musician absolutely nothing, as is often the case, their losses to piracy are zero.)

    If you’re not a megastar act already, the place to go as a musician is Bandcamp – which allows free downloads of everything (the user pays for convenience and audio quality), and yet somehow manages to take only a reasonable fee and actually pay musicians the rest, on time. Soundcloud is in the middle of shooting itself in the head and probably won’t be around much longer except as a brand of some other bigger media company.
