Not just science fiction. Part of the reason the last Halloween remake failed is that it told us entirely too much about the villain — without telling us anything especially interesting.

Some mysteries are not worth solving. :-)

There’s a reason why James Cameron made an action movie with Aliens rather than another horror movie, and it’s the same reason Alien 3 failed. You can’t go back to mysterious and scary once you know what to expect. The worst thing to do is keep wallowing in what you’ve already done. Dead Space 3 was the least scary of the trilogy, but it was also my favorite, because it was about getting past survival horror and fighting back against the horror.

I wish they would make more of those games. I enjoy them.

Eh, I’m afraid they would go the way of Resident Evil. It eventually starts to feel hopeless if you never make any real progress against the nightmarish threat to the world.
