    I’m working on a list of films that fail the Reverse Bechdel-Wallace Test – films where at no point do two men talk to each other. It’s amazing (but obviously shouldn’t be) how invigorating it is to see that.

    When a man has no friends, it may be because he’s a tough, isolated loner. That’s an iconic figure, especially in Westerns. We see that less often with women, who are expected to be emotional (though there are examples). Men, on the other hand, are expected to be cut off from their emotions. MaryAnn has written about how that’s part of toxic masculinity.
