This sounds like it’s one step away from a pulp novel. In the noir version, Wolff would be a hard-drinking reporter on his last legs, and Haberman would be a respected journalist who’s sold her soul to the machine, but she’d find her conscience when Wolff opened her eyes to the dark secret the government wanted to keep hidden.

And they’d run their big exposé, and the next guy would be even worse. Because noir.
