Roger Ebert

The Suicide Squad movie review: primrose psychopaths

Tue, Aug 03, 2021

Spanks the 2016 film and sends it off to the corner to think about what it did. This one is the definite article: Gory, grim, bleakly funny. Full of feverish, anarchic energy and exhausting cynicism.

question of the week: What does the death of Roger Ebert mean for mainstream film criticism?

Mon, Apr 08, 2013

Ebert’s death is, in the public sphere, a blow not only to his fans but to the very institution of mainstream arts criticism… if such a thing can be said to exist anymore now that he is gone.

Roger Ebert’s idea of “taking it easy” sounds exhausting

Ebert is no slacker. Not even when he’s really sick. I wish I could get as much done.

question of the day: What is your favorite biopic?

The first one that springs to mind for me is Out of Africa, because it’s a gorgeous movie, and because it’s about a woman, which so few biopics are.
