watch it: the 4/10/10 weekly address from President Barack Obama

And what about those of us who didn’t buy a house or a car this year, don’t have kids, and get no paycheck for tax breaks to show up in because we freelance and pay estimated taxes? We’re Americans, too.

I don’t begrudge anyone living the life they want to live, however they want to live it. But I do begrudge being considered less than American because I’m not following some narrow script for how Americans are supposed to live and what the American dream is supposed to consist of. I don’t want to own a house, dammit (and I couldn’t afford to buy one even if I wanted to). That’s not part of my American dream.

I’m still waiting to see what my tax situation is going to turn out like. I don’t expect it to be much different from last year, however.
