If you’re logged in to post comments here via Facebook — and it looks like there are only 12 people doing that — please let me know if you run into any problems doing so from now on. Like, if you’re not able to comment at all.
What’s happened is this: In order to allow wpDiscuz, the commenting system here, to read someone’s Facebook credentials for a login, I had to create an app with Facebook to let the two systems talk to each other. That’s been working fine, except now Facebook has decided that I need to prove that I own FlickFilosopher.com, and I am unable to provide any of the documents they will accept as proof. (I don’t have a business bank account, for instance, or a DBA. It’s all just ever been, you know, me, as an independent freelancer.)
So I’ve turned off the Facebook-login option. It would have stopped working anyway at the end of 2023, since I wasn’t able to prove who I am to Facebook’s satisfaction.
The nice tech-support people at wpDiscuz say that anyone who has already created their commenting account here via Facebook shouldn’t be impacted — you should be able to continue commenting as usual. I don’t understand this stuff enough to get why that’s the case, and so I have to trust that they know what they’re talking about, but honestly: I’m expecting problems.
I hope I’m wrong and everything goes smoothly, but, again: please let me know if, as someone who has logged in here via Facebook to post comments, you run into any hitches at all. You may not be able to post a comment, but you can always email me.
