So I started by Googling the phrase “idiot’s lantern” because it’s *such* a perfect euphemism for television, even better than “boob tube,” but I’d never heard it before, and I wondered whether scriptwriter Mark Gatiss invented it.

One Missed Call Poor saps predestined for horrible ends get phone calls on their cells alerting them to their upcoming gruesome deaths. Cruelest irony: the calls don’t come on free nights and weekends. (not screened for critics, and I’m giving it a pass until DVD… and maybe even then, too)
There are enough tender and nicely realized touches in this family drama to make you wish the overall effect was more, well, affecting.

It’s some new Friday fun, stolen whole cloth from my former Cinemarati compadre Dan Jardine. Here’s a screen capture from one of the DVDs in my collection (and it’s definitely from a movie, not a TV show). Guess the movie for fun and, well, fun. No prizes, just bragging rights.
