I am genuinely upset to see how Twitter (I refuse to call it X) has been destroyed by Elon Musk’s petty, spoiled-brat narcissism. I’ve learned a lot there, made new connections, and used it as my go-to source for news and analysis. I’ve been very active there… but no more. Twitter has become a cesspit of bigotry, right-wing bullshit, anti-science ignorance, and worse: Musk has unleashed the worst people in the world and given them a bullhorn the likes of which they could only have dreamed of before.
So I’m done engaging and posting Twitter. (I may continue to browse for a while longer.) I may even delete most of my tweets (I’ve been there since 2008), as soon as I can screengrab the ones embedded in posts here and replace them with images that cannot be taken away.
[ETA: I’m back on Twitter, somewhat. The service simply remains the best way to interact with people whose wisdom I cannot otherwise easily access. At this point, perhaps the most we can hope for is to outlast Elon Musk, and hope that someone saner takes over and brings it back to its previous glory.]
It’s exhausting thinking about rebuilding the modestly respectable following I’d developed there, but I’m starting that journey now. As I explore new social-media options, here’s where you can find me online. Where else besides FlickFilosopher.com, of course. I’ve been here for 26 years, and I’ll be here for 26 more, at least, I hope.
tl;dr: I use my real name everywhere. If you’re not sure how to find me, search on “MaryAnn Johanson” and that should get you close. If you’re not sure if someone somewhere online is me or not, feel free to ask.
If you don’t want to miss anything I post at Flick Filosopher, sign up for the free side of my Flick Filosopher Substack, and you’ll get an email late Sunday or early Monday with links to all the previous week’s posts. You don’t have to get anything else I offer on Substack, if you don’t want that: you can control what you receive in your Substack account settings. Go to My Subscriptions > Flick Filosopher > Edit > Email notifications, then uncheck whichever bits you don’t want to receive by email. (No matter what email settings you choose, you can always read stuff at the Flick Filosopher Substack site or in the Substack app, though nothing there will be different from what I post here.)
Follow the Flick Filosopher WhatsApp channel for links to new posts. (Broadcast only; there are no replies or discussions here.)
You can also follow along here via RSS, if you’re old-school. Here is the RSS feed.
If you want Flick Filosopher stuff in your in-box or in an app as soon as I post it, join my Patreon or my Flick Filosopher Substack. Lots of stuff will come your way, by email or in either service’s app, even if you join only the free versions; the paid versions will get you more (and the paid versions help support my work here, of course). And you can control the paid version of the Substack as above, and what you get via Patreon in your Patreon settings.
I also have a Substack for my fiction, MaryAnn Johanson’s Fiction Flash. It’s not very active at the moment but I’m planning to change that soon.
I am also beginning to explore Substack’s attempts at social media: Notes (Twitter-like) and Chat (live-ish conversations). Find me here.
Twitter wannabes (hopefully one of them will stick):
Post (didn’t survive the social-media chaos)
Facebook
(I’m not very interactive here, but I do post links to new reviews and some other stuff.)
Reddit
(I haven’t done much but browse, but I might get more active here, at least in a few subreddits.)
Keeping these as placeholders:
Twitter
(I am no longer active here, and won’t be until Elon Musk is gone and it returns to its former glory… if it ever does.)
(There is a defunct @FlickFilosopher Twitter, which is owned by me, but I don’t use it anymore. I’m squatting on it to prevent anyone else from grabbing it.)
Movie stuff:
Pinterest
(Nowadays I post only links to new reviews here.)
Book stuff:
Goodreads
(I’m not very active here, though I would like to be better about using it.)
YouTube
(I don’t use this much and there’s not much here.)
This listing will be updated as needed.

Oh, and I have some BlueSky invites, if anyone would like one. Email me: maryann@flickfilosopher.com
Regardless of Elon, Twitter is still Twitter (now X) and you can post the sort of stuff you always have. So why pitch a fit over a personality except to virtue signal to the to other leftists?
Your use of “virtue signal” tells me you are not a serious person.
I totally agree. I dumped my account the day he took over. He is a disgusting racist.
