“Christ, have you seen what these assholes are doing with the idea I so generously bestowed upon them?” She didn’t quite throw *Repo Men* at me — for which I was grateful, because an enraged muse can hurl something as physically nebulous but as psychically powerful as a story with the force of a tornado — but she was about to if I didn’t calm her down.

Edge of Darkness (review)

A suprisingly underpowered, plodding police procedural that thinks that holding back on ‘action’ makes it ‘serious’ even in the absence of anything substantial to take its place…

The Box (review)

It’s a box. A cardboard box. Frank Langella brings it to your door, and inside is the Pop-o-matic of Death, and you either push the big red button under the plastic dome, in which case someone you don’t know dies and you get a cool million in a briefcase, or you don’t, in which you don’t get a movie made about you. Resisting the Moral Dilemma? No movie for you!

Law Abiding Citizen (review)

It had me at *kaboom,* this thorny moral conundrum of a film, and then it lost me when it threw out all the tricksy pointedness in favor of thoughtless, counterproductive badassery.
