We can extrapolate from Harry Potter that there must be schools similar to Hogwarts all over the planet. The wizard school outside Beijing would have snakelike Asian dragons in its menagerie; the wizard school outside Washington DC in the Appalachians probably has to contend with Bigfoots… or perhaps a member of the Bigfoot race teaches there. I like to think so, anyway…

Skyline today brings us yet another invasion by aliens who hate us. I suppose nice aliens won’t invade us in dramatic ways that require millions of dollars in special FX to depict, but still: couldn’t we get overrun just once in a cinematic while by little green men who want to hug us until we are agreeably contented?
Forbes considers Will Ferrell the No. 1 most overpaid star because his movies bring in, on average, “only” more than three times his salary. By the time we get down to No. 10, Jim Carrey, he’s bringing in $8.60 for every dollar he’s paid. How can that be considered overpaid?
Do you enjoy movie music as a separate thing from the movie itself? Do you make a distinction between a soundtrack that’s a compilation of pop songs and one that’s an orchestral score? Do you think movie scores can be great music when separated from the film they belong to?
Do you love commentary tracks? Blooper reels? Making-of documentaries? Something else? Or perhaps you don’t partake in DVD bonus material at all?
Last winter, NBC booted Conan O’Brien out of its late-night NBC spot. O’Brien landed at the basic-cable channel TBS, and his new talk show debuts there tonight at 11pm Eastern. Guess who else is on at 11pm Eastern on basic cable?
Obviously there are plenty of individuals who believe that the war in Iraq is illegal and who value integrity and principle. But there doesn’t seem to be anything unifying those people into action… and the results of this past Tuesday’s elections in the U.S. appear to suggest that the American public, in the aggregate, is dedicated to repudiating anything that could be called “counterculture,” or “liberal,” or “progressive”…
I think it’s safe to assume that if you’re regularly reading a site devoted to movies, like this one, that you generally believe that movies overall are important. But are there specific movies that you consider personally important? And if so, what is it about those movies that make them important to you?
I don’t think Blubberella, offensive as it is, can come close to being as awful as Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, Gigli, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, or Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.
