Pop culture is littered with offensive crimes against decency: “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. The oeuvre of Dane Cook. Rob Lowe singing and dancing with Snow White at the Oscars. Cop Rock. Gigli. Are any of them forgiveable?
I don’t think Blubberella, offensive as it is, can come close to being as awful as Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, Gigli, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, or Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.
It hasn’t been a great year for film — I’m not the first critic you’ve heard say this. Bruce Campbell makes me laugh just looking at him. Just thinking about him. But I never thought he’d almost make me cry. And I certainly never thought he’d almost make me cry in a movie called Bubba Ho-Tep.
