Pure popcorn thrills. Whips up visceral suspense and maintains it till you’re breathless as it cements the arrival of “woman versus nature” as a subgenre.
Too long and too same-old, and even Liam Neeson’s effortless tough-guy charm can only carry this familiar-feeling film so far.
There’s a delicious cleverness to this very silly but very entertaining flick.
Oh, how I wish this was a knowing parody, not an unwitting one. All the overbaked tropes of the genre are deployed: the “scary” music, the “menacing” camera angles, the telegraphing every boo.
