TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 04.24-04.30

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

TUESDAY 04.25

10:00PM: Bell, Book and Candle. Before Harry Potter, witches were sexy blondes.

WEDNESDAY 04.26

3:00AM: Godzilla vs. Gigan. The big guy goes up against a giant mutant space chicken, or something. Even for Godzilla movies, this one is pretty bad... which means it’s pretty funny.

THURSDAY 04.27

Oh, man, it’s a 50s sci-fi smorgasbord! Call in sick today and stake out your claim on the couch for:

6:30AM: Forbidden Planet
8:30AM: From the Earth to the Moon
10:30AM: It Came from Outer Space
12n: The Thing from Another World
1:30PM: Invasion of the Body Snatchers
3:00PM: The Quatermass Xperiment
4:30PM: The Incredible Shrinking Man

(And if you’re not totally sci-fi-ed out, at 6:00PM, there’s a tasty snack of Soylent Green. This week, Thursday is soylent green day!)

3:00AM: Destroy All Monsters. Monster mash!

FRIDAY 04.28

3:00AM: Godzilla vs. Hedorah. Insomniacs certainly are getting their Godzilla fixes this week...

SATURDAY 04.29

11:00PM: 12 Monkeys. Terry Gilliam is a god, and with this spectacularly geeky flick, Bruce Willis pretty much deifies himself, too.

SUNDAY 04.30

3:00AM: Godzilla vs. Megalo. And why not close out the week with one more movie about a guy in a rubber suit?
