I would have thought that something as important — to the companies selling the tickets, that is — as what time of the day one may see a movie at a multiplex had been focus-grouped down to the millisecond. And yet I constantly hear people saying things like, “Six-thirty is too early cuz we won’t have time for dinner beforehand, but then nine-thirty is too late! Why do they put the movies on at those times?”
Maybe no one actually has ever asked moviegoers what time they’d like to see movies! If that is the case, let’s remedy that now:
What is the ideal cineplex showtime? Is there an ideal time? Does it change on the day of the week? (Maybe there’s a different time you’d prefer to see a movie in an after-work scenario than on a Saturday evening.) What about daytime performances? Are they as time-sensitive as the evening ones?
Perhaps this is part of why more and more people are resorting to watching films at home: we get to choose the start time.
