question of the day: What kind of superhero does the world need today?

unknown superhero

Rising oceans. Rising gas prices. Rising inequality.

Bad priests. Bad bankers. Bad politicians.

Doping athletes. Misbehaving celebrities. People who talk at the theater.

In a world that has sunk so low that Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is a thing, who will save us?

What kind of superhero does the world need today? I need name, superpower, and secret identity.

(And yes, I’m aware that what the world needs isn’t for a superhuman demigod to save us for us mere mortal humans to get off our asses and save ourselves. This is an exercise in imagination, that’s all. And sometimes a bit of creative play can lead us in the direction of real-life solutions, too.)

I hereby summon The Truthteller, borne out of swamp of civic deceit and individual fraudulence that has mucked up decent society. Able to spot a lie 10 minutes out, while the ignorant suppositions and willful malevolence that will form that lie are only begin to take form, she strikes fibs, howlers, and fabrications with her mighty Sword of Reality, compelling speakers to speak true. Lately, in her elegant Cape of Legitimacy, she has been seen at political rallies and on cable news talk shows, and expects to be very busy with the advent of year-end movie awards season. Propaganda shall not stand before her! Tall tales are never too tall for her! Sham and pretense quiver in her presence. She is The Truthteller!
The Truthteller hides in plain sight as Veracity Honor, the foreign celebrity correspondent for morning show Good Morning Hudson City!, where she would never, ever be expected her to have the slightest interest in reality.

Your turn. Have fun.
