QOTW: What would you be proud to win a major award for?

major award Christmas Story

Apparently there’s some big awards thingie happening this weekend that everyone’s talking about. I haven’t been invited, and in case you haven’t either, I figure we should give ourselves our own major awards.

What would you be proud to win a major award for? What are you so good at that, sure, dammit, you deserve some big, splashy recognition? Or perhaps there’s something you’re good at that you think few or no people even notice about you, and so it’s high time someone let the world know how darn amazing you are in this particular arena?

I, clearly, am overdue to receive the Eggie for Outstanding Achievement in Deviled Eggs and Egg Salad, and am so stunned by this award that I barely know what to say. I have a few notes here, didn’t write a speech because I didn’t expect to win… But I have to say that it’s so gratifying to be honored by my culinary egg-preparing peers, and I’d like to thank my friend Bonnie for inspiring me: her aversion to mayonnaise was key to my innovations in the field. Thank you.

Your turn. Go on, don’t be modest! Toot your own horn and give us your acceptance speech.

World’s Greatest Sex Machine.

Thank you. Thank you. While I’m gentlemanly enough not to get into explicit detail, I hope that all participants I’ve worked with through the years have been left smiling from ear to ear. It’s taken a lot of hard work and determination and often daily solo training, but ultimately, I’m pleased to please others.

Wow, this just set off my latent inferiority complex, I’ll just go and lie down for the rest of the weekend…
But! Maybe, one day I’ll get an award for pasta making-advice giving prowess.

I could go the corny route and say something about how awesome of a Dad I am, but I won’t. Oh, wait. I just did. I AM an awesome Dad. I’ve got the kid all hocked up on the science juice. He loves building things, and learning how they work. He loves Nature, and is fascinated by animals and insects. He loves space, and is endlessly curious about the planets, stars, galaxies, etc. I kick ass for getting him into all this stuff. Dad of the millennium award for me.

Aaaaanyway, on a more personal note…
I’ve talked about it on posts here before, but I am a gardening fool. Not just gardening, but nature in general. I’ve worked in the landscape field for almost twenty years now, but I can say that I’ve been into it all since I was kid.

The point IS that over the past 12 years I have created a pretty amazing English Cottage garden surrounding our home. I am intensely proud of my work, and most people who come for a visit are pretty darn impressed. My garden was in a local garden walk a few years ago, and even the other participants agreed that mine is what they are all aiming for.

So I damn well deserve an award for Most Kick Ass Garden.
