Kinky Boots (review)

Flamboyant London drag queen (Chiwetel Ejiofor: Serenity) meets buttoned-down shoe-factory owner (Joel Edgerton: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) from the hinterlands — he needs a gimmick to turn his floundering business around, “she” needs fabulous footwear that can support her less-than-feminine weight. Oh, and they both could use a little expansion of their horizons, too, of course. Might sweet-natured and pleasantly naughty British comedy be in the offing? You bet. This delightful flick explores the intersection between commerce and crosscultural understanding and finds that both are good for the wallet as well as the soul… and the sole. Ejiofor deserves to be a star after this extraordinary performance, which is full of sass, wit, and heart. And the shoes? Fab-you-luz!
