Doctor Who thing: specialty drinks fit for a (grownup) Time Lord at a London Marriott hotel

If you don’t already have tickets for the Doctor Who 50th-anniversary celebration taking place in London over the weekend of November 22nd through 24th, you’re out of luck — it’s completely sold out. But you could still party nearby, at the London Marriott Hotel West India Quay, close to the festival venue, the ExCel. From Bar magazine:

The bar team at a London Docklands hotel have created special cocktails to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.

The Sonic Screwdriver, which is named after the Doctor’s all-purpose gadget, is a mix of vodka, orange curaçao and a dash of grenadine, topped up with champagne and served in a champagne flute with a garnish of a twist of orange.

The Laser Screwdriver is a fruity mix of vodka, Cointreau, Passoã and passion fruit juice, all poured over a serving of passion fruit and mango sorbet in a martini glass.

The Dalekquiri, inspired by the Daleks, again uses vodka, this time combined with Kahlúa, Baileys Irish Cream with a Hint of Mint Chocolate, chocolate liqueur and banana, served in a hurricane glass.

Ooo, I’ll have a Dalekquiri, please.

Apparently the drinks will be available only over the festival weekend.

Better than the usual practice for novelty drinks of slapping random names on things. Though I don’t really associate Daleks with sweetness; I’d have thought something with bitters would be more appropriate. That recipe’s not so much a drink as a dessert…

probably only for a short time because they’d have to charge like 25 pounds a piece if they continued to sell them.
