top 5 worst things at the Oscars

• Daniel Day-Lewis’s tuxedo, which made him look like a bellhop out of a 1930s screwball comedy

• Regis Philbin on the red carpet

• “Happy Working Song” with no dancing vermin

• Seth Rogen and that not-Seth Rogen guy pretending to be Dame Judi Dench and Halle Berry

• me crying again over the senselessness of Heath Ledger no longer being with us

Re: the Halle Berry/Judi Dench disaster… There is a kind of horror knowing that a running joke won’t go over well, and yet you are stuck with that running gag until the next commercial break, at which point you wash your eyes out with acid and hope it never gets referred to again…

RE: Happy Working Song. Yeah part of me was just praying for the dancing cockroaches… though I try to keep that part as quiet as I can. They left Amy Adams up there all alone to sing her song! What was up with that?

And consensus here on the Left Coast was not only did DDL look like a bellhop, but that fellow Irishman Colin Farrell looks much better wearing earrings.

I don’t hate the Judd Apatow crew as much as you, but I definitely agree that Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill weren’t funny. I especially hate it when presenters make a joke or babble after opening the envelope, while all the nominees are waiting with cameras in their faces, probably on the edge of nervous breakdowns. I just get really angry at that. This includes Julia Roberts’ “I love my life” a few years ago when Denzel won. And Rogen and Hill should have just read the winners and been on their way instead of hogging the spotlight.

Regis Philbin on the red carpet

Grr…don’t get me started on this blowhard.

Why did he have to grab and hold every single woman’s hand while interviewing her? He didn’t do that with any of the men! I would have yanked my hand out and said, “Only if we’re on a third date do I hold hands with a man, sorry, Reeg!”

What about DDL’s wife? That dress… ugh. It looked like she went to the dollar store, and just started sticking things from the shelves onto her dress.

Plus-ones are not fair game, in my book. Only celebrities deserve to be picked on for their wardrobe.

Rebecca Miller is hardly a plus-one. She knows how the game is played. As far as I’m concerned, pick away! That dress deserves it.
