Is there anything either positive or negative in the film’s representation of women not already accounted for here? (points will vary)
A woman is blamed for her own rape. By the protagonist. And not in a way that we’re intended to see as something wrongheaded and worthy of condemnation and as appalling evidence of rape culture. Fuck that shit.

BOTTOM LINE: If there was a Where Are the Women bingo card, this unpleasantly retro movie would win a booby prize. A hooker with a heart of gold who is raped in order to motivate the protagonist. A diner waitress who is wise and kind and actually named Roxy. A sexy bombshell who is defined so exclusively by her body that she is identified only as “DD.” All in the same movie!

NOTE: This is not a “review” of Wild Card! It is simply an examination of how well or how poorly it represents women. (A movie that represents women well can still be a terrible film; a movie that represents women poorly can still be a great film.) Read my review of Wild Card.
