Society does change, although sometimes it’s hard to tell when you’re living your life right in the middle of it. Things look different now from the way they did twenty or fifty or a hundred or two hundred years ago (not always for the better, but not always for the worse either). And sometimes change comes faster than expected (see: marriage equality in the US).
