One of the reasons I love London so much is that it is full of secret nooks and crannies like Ching Court, in Seven Dials, near Covent Garden. You step in off a busy street — if you even notice the entrance at all — to discover a quiet haven:

Oh, me too! Even some places that aren’t so secret are amazingly picturesque, and make you think you’re in a different era. The beaten path is crowded with Londoners and tourists, as well as the places that cater to those crowds, but if you just keep going you’ll turn a corner, to find something that will stop you in your tracks.

After I saw these photos, I thought about moving to London. But I live in New York, which has the best nooks and crannies in the world.

That depends. I find that London has better nooks, but you really can’t beat New York for crannies. And, of course, New York also has plenty of crooks and nannies.
