Barcelona photos: the Sagrada Familia (interior)

Just a taste of the interior of Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished basilica.

The feeling of overwhelming awe I experienced here was akin to what I felt the first time I saw Notre Dame. Nothing to do with God or religion — I’m an atheist — and everything to do with humanism: people imagined this and people made it real. Incredible.

This was my favorite vista. The afternoon sun streaming through these windows — the whole structure is positioned specifically to get this effect — made it look like the glass was on fire.
