question of the day: What movies are important to you, and why?

As a sort of followup to the QOTD earlier this week about what makes a movie great, here’s a related question:

What movies are important to you, and why?

I think it’s safe to assume that if you’re regularly reading a site devoted to movies, like this one, that you generally believe that movies overall are important. But are there specific movies that you consider personally important? And if so, what is it about those movies that make them important to you? Is it something more than merely being a favorite movie? Can a movie be important to you personally without it being one of your favorites?

(If you have a suggestion for a QOTD, feel free to email me. Responses to this QOTD sent by email will be ignored; please post your responses here.)
