question of the weekend: What are your hopes for the new year?

I won’t use the word resolutions, because it gets a bad rap… and also because it covers only things we can personally control ourselves, and sometimes our hopes and dreams aren’t entirely things we have total power over. I mean: We can resolve to, say, lose weight, but we cannot resolve to bring world peace. So:

What are your hopes for the new year?

I have my big adventure in London coming up in less than three weeks, and my hopes are all for that: that I’ll find some new professional succeess that has eluded me in New York (either by the new perspective inspiring my writing in ways that bring in new readers to FlickFilosopher.com, or my finding some new work for other outlets that helps burnish my reputation and my bank account), that I’ll make wonderful new friends, and — *fingers crossed* — that I’ll find new romance, too. The man of my dreams clearly isn’t in New York; perhaps he’s in London.

No, I’m not piling too many expectations on the move to London. Not at all.

You?
