the oh-no! DVD of the week: ‘The Narnia Code’

I won’t reveal the secret of The Narnia Code, but suffice to say that it’s not so much a code as an extremely arcane literary prism through which one may view C.S. Lewis’s fantasy series… and one that doesn’t actually address the questions the official site for the DVD suggests it does:

Millions of readers have been captivated by C. S. Lewis’s famed Chronicles of Narnia, but why? What is it about these seven books that makes them so appealing? For more than half a century, scholars have attempted to find the organizing key—the “secret code”—to the beloved series, but it has remained a mystery. Until now.

The “secret code” is nothing, in fact, that explains why the books appeal to readers beyond those with a scholarly interest in medieval symbolism. But hey! If ordinary moviegoers and readers can be fooled into thinking this is gonna be like The DaVinci Code but more Jesus-y, who are we to quibble?
