Oh, you American and Canadian Whovians without a region-free DVD player, today is your lucky day. For today is the day that the made-for-U.S.ian-TV Doctor Who movie starring Paul McGann as our favorite renegade Time Lord finally arrives on Region 1 DVD. Gary S. Dalkin’s review on Amazon is a small thing of beauty. An excerpt:
[T]he most eccentrically British of programs [has] been almost entirely assimilated by the requirements of American network broadcasting. Matthew Jacobs’ screenplay is literally nonsense, dependent on arbitrary, unexplained events while introducing numerous elements that contradict established Doctor Who mythology. The Tardis is re-imagined as a bizarre pre-Raphaelite/Gothic folly, while the Doctor, now half-human, becomes romantically involved with his lady companion.
