question of the day: What is the appeal of ‘The Inbetweeners’?

Wed, Sep 07, 2011

I thought I was safe avoiding The Inbetweeners Movie. It’s based on a TV show I’ve never seen, it wasn’t screened for critics, and it looks awful. But now it’s a veritable phenomenon at the U.K. box office…

So I’m watching this prequel, and all along I’m thinking: This isn’t telling me anything new or surprising. What is the point of this?

question of the day: What actors have you been surprised to discover were a different nationality than you’d believed?

BBC America’s Secretly British is tongue in cheek, of course: no one is actually hiding their nationality. But sometimes we’re surprised anyway…

‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Amy’s voiceover intro for the international episodes — good or bad?

I was a little upset to hear from friends and fellow Doctor Who fans in the U.S. that the BBC America versions of the episodes in the current season have been opening with a voiceover by Amy, setting up the scenario. It makes it sound as if the show is all about Amy, which it isn’t…

‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Season 6 BBC America trailer

There’s too much awesome and awful here for me to even begin to unpack it. Transparent aliens and River falling out of a New York skyscraper and something out of the corner of my eye and a spaceship graveyard and… oh, I just can’t wait.

‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Series 6 American premiere date announced… but not the British date

It would be totally typical of my luck if, for some bizarre reason, Doctor Who was to air in the U.S. first, just after I’ve made the move to the U.K. What else did they think I came here for?!
