Disney’s PR folks sent this Halloween greeting to members of the media this afternoon…
Is it me, or does this look remarkably bland? Even with Johnny Depp?
Is this fair to fans? Does this benefit fans? Or is it just a way to force any fencesitters to spend who might not otherwise bother to buy the DVDs right now?
When I am pushed to choose between being faithful to readers and making nice with studios, I will always — always — choose you, my dear readers.
Are we going to see a mad rush by all the studios to convert old — and not so old — movies to 3D and get them back out in multiplexes? Would that be an entirely bad thing? Would it be better if we just got unconverted classics back on a big screen?
However crass Disney’s motivation may have been in rereleasing the film, it’s cheering to see that even in this era of awesome home-entertainment setups and increasingly unpleasant multiplexes, people still want to see great movies on a big screen with big sound…
I mean, apart from the general idiocy of has-beens, never-weres, and Z-list celebs hoofing it on a bread-and-circuses variety show?
Cuz sometimes the stuff that ends up in my in-box is too good, bad, weird, interesting, or otherwise notable not to share. And also because I’m having fun picking on Disney tonight.
It’s like Cars, only… Nope, it’s just like Cars.
Obvious troll — Walt Disney Animation Studios chief technical officer Andy Hendrickson — is obvious.
