Monsters vs. Aliens (review)
The nicest monster movie ever…
The nicest monster movie ever…
Cutest monsters ever! At least that seems to be what Monsters vs. Aliens (opens in the U.S. on March 27, and in the U.K. on April 3) is promising. I’m especially thrilled because I’m seeing it in IMAX… real IMAX, not that fake stuff they’re trying to sell us these days with the phony “upgrade” … more…
This is bittersweet to me: the evangelical boy “rockers” lose out on the weekend of their movie debut, but that means Tyler Perry in a fatsuit gets to win again: 1. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail: $16.2 million (2nd week; drops 61%) 2. Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience: $12.5 million (NEW) 3. Slumdog … more…
James Bond is burning up the U.S./Canadian box office just like he has been all around the world. What a shock: 1. Quantum of Solace: $67.5 million (NEW) 2. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa: $35 million (2nd week; drops 45%) 3. Role Models: $11. million (2nd week; drops 42%) 4. High School Musical 3: Senior Year: … more…
Last week’s box office prognostications for Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’s opening weekend were optimistic, but there seemed to be near universal agreement that $60 million would be a stretch for the flick. Five stories ripped from the Hallmark Channel by way of the 700 Club. In IMAX. With the stars-and-stripes waving behind them. And Toby Keith … more…
Surprise! This is as fresh, as clever, as lively, as huggable, as satisfying as animated movies get.
A moviegoing pal of mine calls it ‘Disney goosebumps,’ the awestruck, think-I’m-gonna-cry feeling evoked when the alchemy works and image and music fuse with your imagination and longing to transport you to another world.
Did I say what a tremendous impact this film had on me? I remember the first time I saw it, during its initial release, at a sold-out late-night showing, not a child in sight, and I was not the only adult sniffling back tears of joy, thunderstruck by the sheer wonderfulness of this movie. And that feeling came rushing back, times ten, when I saw the film again in IMAX.
