It’s The Hunger Games meets Step Up!
Covers ground — the lives of black teen girls — that mostly goes unexamined onscreen. It couldn’t be fresher or more important. It’s also wildly entertaining.
Astonishingly athletic dancers express crazy-hot modern choreography, strung together by a flimsy narrative. Kinda like old-school Hollywood musicals did.
The dancing is fantastic, but the moment the dancing stops, it all stumbles into the howlingly ridiculous…
I can’t say there are lots of reasons to love Step Up 3D, but there are good reasons not to hate it.
