The Book of Life movie review: what’s a woman for?
The animation is fresh, unique, and gorgeous. But we don’t need another tale of a man having exciting adventures while a woman waits around to marry him.

The animation is fresh, unique, and gorgeous. But we don’t need another tale of a man having exciting adventures while a woman waits around to marry him.

Just another rote space adventure. It’s not actively awful, but there isn’t a single damn thing in the least bit surprising or memorable about it.

Excellent performances by Clive Owen and Billy Crudup can’t disguise the fact that there’s absolutely nothing here we haven’t seen too many times before.

A pungent reek of testosterone stinks up this high-toned apologetic for vigilantism and revenge. Still: great performances! (new DVD/VOD US/Can)
I’ll be in my bunk.
I gotta go with Bryony, the kickass elf Wrapping Operative Grade Three, in Arthur Christmas…
I thought this was gonna be about how different versions of individual movies appear in legitimate and illegitimate content streams. But, no, it’s even better…
“You must expect the unexpected — she’s like mist under a door.” –Marco (Jordi Mollà), about Cataleya (Zoe Saldana)… and more…
Colombiana fofana, Zoe Saldana banana. C’mon, sing it with me! C’mon! It makes more sense than the movie, and it’s more entertaining to boot.
The trailer looks like a bad parody from a particularly depressing episode of Saturday Night Live. (Ed Asner?)
