‘Heroes’ recapping, plus an apology from Tim Kring

My weekly recapping of the latest episode of Heroes is up now at Film.com. Check it out here.

In related news, via the IMDB:

The creator of hit TV show Heroes has issued a humbled apology to U.S. fans for a disappointing start to the second season. The superhero show, starring Hayden Panettiere and Masi Oka, was the top-rated new drama in the U.S. last year. But audience figures have taken a dip — with one recent episode placed 30th in the overall ratings. And creator Tim Kring admits his choice of storylines were a mistake. He tells magazine Entertainment Weekly, “We assumed the audience wanted season one — a build up of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake — we took too long to get to the big-picture story.” Referring to the recent romantic plotlines, he adds, “In retrospect, I don’t think romance is a natural fit for us.”

Wow. Now, if we can get just apologies for Chuck, Journeyman, and Viva Laughlin, we’ll be in good shape.

I admit, Season One was better than Season Two. But I really don’t consider it to be bad either. I keep hearing people saying that Season Two has been a disappointment, and I really don’t get that. I love Adam as a character, and while I agree that the “romance” aspect of many of the story-lines hasn’t been great, I thought that at least Peter’s “romance” was OK. The cheerleader/flyboy romance does suck. Her sidekick in Season One was way better. On the whole, though, I can’t say Season Two has been bad. There’s plenty of stuff on TV right now that make me want to gag, and Heroes is still a refreshing departure from the usual crap.

I love Journeyman! In fact, along with Life, it’s my favorite of the new crop of shows.

I think it’ll be Maya and Monroe who bite the big one.

Personally, I think Chuck is pretty good. Got just the right amount of wit, and McG (who’s responsible for the dreck known as the Charlie’s Angels movies) has toned down his obnoxiousness a bit.
