‘Doctor Who’ not-blogging: “Forest of the Dead”

At the beginning of this episode, I felt like Westley in the Pit of Despair: “So, it’s to be torture then, huh? I can take it.”

But I couldn’t.

Steven Moffat, I hate you. I hate you for making Doctor Who so gutwrenching and so heartbreaking. I hate you for writing stuff that’s so good that it makes me feel like I shouldn’t ever bother to write anything myself again, cuz I’ll never be as good as you.

I hate you for making the Doctor suffer.

You bastard.

Funny thing: the first time I saw Alex Kingston, oh so many years ago now, on ER, I thought: She would be perfect as Ayren, the companion I created for the Doctor in my fanfic. I’m not saying River’s story is anything like Ayren’s, but it’s interesting that someone else thinks she’d be perfect for the Doctor, too…

Oh, and yes, I think we have 2009’s Hugo winner for Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, right here. Yes indeedy.

It was pretty amazing. Moffat didn’t disappoint.

Even Vashta Nerada fears him. That’s interesting.

Don’t give the Hugo away just yet. The buzz for next episode is very strong :)

But we already knew that, didn’t we? The Doctor is whom the monsters have nightmares about… :->

I can’t get this haunting episode out of my head or my heart – Moffat’s an absolute genius, and so is Tennant! I just cannot believe David would give up the chance to do another season of Who with Steven at the helm … the thought of the two of them creating together for a whole year just gives me the shivers.

Who says Tennant is giving up?

I’ve not seen anything that points to this conclusion. They seem quite happy with bending over backwards to allow David to do other things *and* do Doctor Who – hence series 4.5 (as some have dubbed it) consisting of four specials for next year.

Tennant was brilliant as usual…but why can’t I bring myself to like River Song?

I must agree, I feel like they wouldn’t have given up doing a full season in 2009 if he weren’t staying on. And I’m glad they’re willing to work with him, I would hate to lose him over stubborn behavior on the part of the production company.

Everything I’ve heard suggests that he’s in for the full 2010 season, and it’s only because they want to give him room to do other stuff — like the Shakespeare this summer and fall — that they’re manipulating their own schedule to do a truncated 2009.

And I think this episode suggests that Tennant may have told them he’d be happy to be around in this role for the next 20 years. :->

Actually, the producers (particularly RTD) have made it clear that the plans for the break in 2009 came first, and it was because he’d have the time free that he was able to do the Shakespeare this summer.

But I agree that I think he’s doing 2010, although on an interview on the BBC last Sunday he claimed that he hadn’t been asked yet. Here’s the interview

He’s also plugging a new dvd of one of his earliest shows “Takin’ over the Asylum” (from 1994), which might be of interest for you in your Tennantwatch. How young does he look on the cover!!

*Asylum* will be part of my Summer of David Tennant: watch for a review eventually.

“I hate you for making the Doctor suffer”

But I love him for giving the Doctor a fantastic future, and making it all work out in the end. And for giving the Doctor older women, with a bit more to them.
As for the filthy look in Kingston’s eyes when he asked her about the cuffs. “Spoilers” indeed, in family viewing??

By the way, if anyone missed out on Hamlet tickets, bookings for the London season for RSC members open Monday.

So the future given the Doctor in Trial of a Timelord has been cancelled? Or postponed?

They keep referring to the Doctor’s “dark side” so often I can’t help but wonder…

And I’m trying to resist the notion that River Song’s maiden name was Tam…

And forget snapping one’s fingers. What I really wanted to see was Donna kick open the door of the Tardis…

Oh, absolutely.

You must take much of what I say in context. After all, I have made and am continuing to make the Doctor suffer, too…
