watch it: the weekly address from President-elect Barack Obama

Obviously the mortgage situation is a problem that needs to be fixed, but still I continue to wonder, where’s my rent bailout?

Obama says a home — meaning a home that one owns, or is trying to own by taking out a 30-year loan to pay for it — is the cornerstone of a family’s financial security. If that’s true, then surely that means that I, as a renter, am even less secure than someone who is in trouble with their mortgage, right? And hence I should be more worthy of a bailout. Or is it that people how don’t “dream of owning a home” aren’t real Americans?
