The Guardian writer didn’t mention it, but Cyriak shows an obvious influence of Zbig Rybczynski’s “Tango.” Not to diminish his talent, though.
It won the 1983 Oscar for best animated short, and Rybczynski stepped out for a smoke with his Oscar, couldn’t make himself understood by the security guard when he tried to go back into the auditorium, and spent the night in jail.

Sorry, Keith — it certainly wasn’t an intentional snub. I’m not actually on Twitter very often, so it’s not the best place to attempt to contact me. Email is best. And I’m working on a way to streamline my email: I get hundreds a day (many not even spam!) and I’m embarking on probably the 165th attempt in the last ten years to be more proactive about keeping on top of it.
