I get asked the question a lot: Did I ever write a negative review of a film and then later see that as a mistake, or did I ever love a movie at first and then come to hate it later? And the answer is no, I’ve never changed my mind that much about a movie. I would very much like to find some time to go back and rewatch some movies I loved as a small child that I have not seen again since, and see how I feel about them as an adult, but that’s not quite the same thing as changing one’s mind: though would be more about growing beyond a movie.
The only example I can give in answer to the question concerns the TV reboot of Battlestar Galactica. I hate it at first, with a passion. I did not continue watching it immediately, but when friends whose opinions I valued convinced me to give it another shot, I found that all the things that I hated about the miniseries introduction came to be important to the reasons that I ended up loving it.
Again, though, that’s not quite the same thing as changing your mind about a movie that exists as a complete, finished entity. It’s entirely likely that I would never have changed my mind about BSG if it hadn’t continued developing.
But I get asked the question about changing my mind so often that I figure this must be a more regular thing for other movie lovers. So now it’s your turn:
What film (or TV show) have you had the biggest change of heart about?
