Today’s QOTD comes from Jester, who writes:
Quite often, you end up with pairs or combinations of Hollywood actors working together because they’re similar ages and play off each other well: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, for instance, or Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. You can’t do Colin Farrell and Elizabeth Taylor together in a romantic piece no matter how cool that would be because it would have been a little creepy at their relative ages. And you certainly can’t throw them together into a early 1960s setting (even though Farrell would fit right in) because Farrell wasn’t born yet.
But suppose you had a time machine. Would you send Bruce Willis back in time to play the heavy in a Bogart noir detective piece? Or bring Katharine Hepburn forward in time to play opposite Abigail Breslin in a coming of age drama? Or put John Belushi and Zach Galifianakis together with Steve Martin playing the straight man in a late 80s comedy and see which of the two can make him freak out first.
We might get there eventually with CGI acting (a la Marlon Brando in Superman Returns), but just a fun one to think about and now I can’t stop. ;-)
So, if you had a time machine:
What actor(s) would you bring forward or send backward in time so they could work with stars of other eras? Which noncontemporaries would you pair them with, and what kind of movie would they make?
