Following up on yesterday’s QOTD about favorite character actresses, we come to the inevitable:
Who are your favorite character actors?
I think my favorite at the moment is Denis O’Hare, who is in absolutely everything all the time, and is always a delight. (I just discovered he’s in True Blood, which I still haven’t seen, so I’ll have to make an extra special point to check that out.) I remember really vividly when he first made a dramatic impression on me: it was years ago in an episode of Law & Order, in which he played a man with schizophrenia who refused to take his medication because of the unplesant side effects. There’s a courtroom scene toward the end in which he is finally out from under the effects of the meds, and there is something utterly unworldy about his behavior. It’s one of the most sympathetic portrayals of the disease I’ve ever seen, and one of the eeriest, because O’Hare truly gets across how differently his character’s mind is working.
