question of the day: If we can get this excited about the real Mars, why can’t we make a decent movie about that planet?

NASA mohawk guy Mars Curiosity Bobak Ferdowsi

I’m not at all a morning person, but I was awake and actually bright-eyed at 5:15am today so that I could watch a bunch of nerds in powder-blue polo shirts and headsets tell us about stuff that had already happened… half a billion miles away on Mars.
Because: Mars.

I’m so overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the reality of what we just did.

If reality is this cool, without even being science fiction, how is it possible that every movie about Mars is pretty bad?

If we can get this excited about the real Mars, why can’t we make a decent movie about that planet?

Also: Who will play NASA Mohawk Guy — aka Bobak Ferdowsi, Curiosity flight director; aka @tweetsoutloud — in the Mars movie that finally doesn’t suck?
