what are your summertime rituals or must-do’s for the season?

summertime

It’s the long holiday weekend in the U.S., where Monday is Memorial Day, and in the U.K., where Monday is a bank holiday: summer has begun, unofficially, at least. (Canada beat us to the fun last weekend, with Victoria Day last Monday.)

What are your summertime rituals or must-do’s for the season?

Trips to the beach? Barbecuing in the backyard? Tending a garden? Hangin’ out by the pool?

I am looking forward to enjoying the ridiculously long English summer evenings, which seem to go on forever. And I hope to find a day where I can rent a car and just go for a long drive in the countryside.

What will you get up to while the weather is nice and the days are long?

Sitting in the evening sun on my balcony after work, drinking a G&T (or V&T, either will do!) and smelling that summer evening smell. Except that this year, I’m still wearing a coat and my balcony is too sodding cold to sit out on.

Summer movies with my friends. If there’s one we can agree on seeing as a group. It’s trickier this year since I’ve moved further away so… :/

1. Clean up the summerhouse
2. Eat groundnut stew in the garden.
3. Get drunk on Amaretto in summerhouse with Russians

Yeah, in latitude terms London is half-way between New York and Anchorage, well into rural Canada…

For me it’s outdoor working, which I do any day the weather is warm enough. (I work from home on computer.) I’ve only had a couple of weeks of it so far this year.

Really no different than any other time of year. I spend pretty much every free moment in my garden all year long. Summer is no different. Sure, we try and find things to do as a family, but, to be perfectly honest, it’s all about my garden. It always is.
