London photo of the day: NFL on Regent Street

nflregentstreet1

Today the NFL — the American National Football League, that is — shut down London’s famous Regent Street for an event to promote its upcoming International Series. (Tomorrow, September 29, the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Minnesota Vikings, and on October 27, the San Francisco 49ers play the Jacksonville Jaguars; both games will take place at Wembley Stadium.)

It was rather terrifying. And over the next few days, I will be sharing images from that scary culture clash with you.

More at — dear god — NFL UK.

I don’t know if Britain is ready for some American football…

I know one or two people who care deeply about it, get up at the appropriate time of day to watch hugely expensive feeds of the games, and so on. But even other sports fans seem to think they’re a bit strange.

Unfortunate choices. The Steelers and the Jaguars are both 0-4 so far this season. Those are not likely to be very exciting games.

Of course, maybe they chose the Jaguars just so they could go over and hear everybody call them “jag-yu-ers.” ;-)
