Doctor Who thing: life-size flying TARDIS

Made by some guys from Flyonix, a company that makes aerial cameras for film and TV production.

The flying TARDIS’s maiden voyage was a short one, alas:

Still: cool!

ObPurist: but it doesn’t fly! It doesn’t need to!

  • Tell that to Davies and Moffat…

i thought it would be a cool kite. as a matter of fact, all you creative DW people out there, get to it, and make a box kite TARDIS sized (outside sized, of course).

yes, i always hated those episodes where the TARDIS blundered about crashing into things and causing damage… once again, disregarding the actual operation of the TARDIS — materializing (materialising) and de-materializing… sound, not damage.

It flew about occasionally during the old show too. I don’t see it as too big a stretch that a thing that’s bigger on the inside (with a pool!) that can dematerialize and fly through time and space is also able to fly. There’s something magnificently bonkers about that one moment at the end of Eccly’s season where the TARDIS is barreling through a hail of exploding Dalek missiles. :)

I think this is becoming this site’s catchphrase. :D
