London photo: Seaview Cottage

I love the optimism of the name of this house. It borders on fantasy, actually. Even if it weren’t in the middle of London (in Islington), which of course has no sea views, I doubt this tiny structure has much of a view of the street in front of it.

The sea is inside the house. The pipes leaked so badly that the owners decided to flood the basement on purpose. None of the neighbors can say they have their own, personal body of water. There’s a small ship that sails around the basement and lets people see the local sights (mostly the walls of the basement). The ship has a pirate flag, because the owners of the house have young children.

At least, that’s my theory, and I’m sticking to it.

And at night, the sea grows and grows until the walls become the world all around, and your private boat sails off through night and day and in and out of weeks and almost over a year…

Salt water flows in the hearts of many a Briton, and I am sure the people who live in this cottage can see the sea from their front window, even if others can’t!

Once the tide comes in, and the neighbours who aren’t on half-mile-deep foundations get washed away…
