The setting for the wonderful novel and movie… now the site of a McDonald’s.
At least there’s a plaque:
Near Soho and Covent Garden.

I shouldn’t feel so sentimental about an address; but, a McDonald’s??
I loved that book and read several works only because Ms. Hanff was seeking them.
i *know*… on my first visit to london, i went to charing cross road looking for that book store. i think it was a music store or something at that time.
I think it was a drugstore (chemists?) the last time we checked it out, when we were last in London many years ago. Not to be picky, but why does the sign say “24 Cambridge Circus”?
As RogerBW notes, the building basically has two addresses: one that reflects the crossroads that is Cambridge Circus, and one that reflects the road it’s actually on (Charing Cross Road). I bet 84 Charing Cross Road isn’t actually a legit address anymore (like for postal purposes).

You are not the only one.

Sigh.

Cambridge Circus is a large crossroads area just to the south, through which Charing Cross Road runs, and where the main entrance of this particular McDonald’s is. Here’s the Google Street View: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.513594,-0.129354,3a,75y,75.58h,85.57t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXNVqKfZ2ixR725g6H7lBeQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

This older Google Street View shows the restaurant that was there until recently.
ETA: Weird. Though the preview here shows the McDonald’s, if you click through, you can see the old restaurant.
