I don’t know why Armando (The Thick of It/Veep) Iannucci’s 2017 movie The Death of Stalin is so much in my head these days. I mean, it’s a historical satire set 70 years ago, in a completely different political environment — what resonance for today could it possibly have? Well. Monty Python’s production of George Orwell’s 1984, with a touch of Terry Gilliam’s Brazil thrown in for good measure, turns out to be a shockingly, laugh-until-you-cry relevant commentary on this moment right now. I guess. #LOLsob. (Read my 2017 review.)
