You’ve probably heard already that actor Rob Kazinsky had to drop out of the Hobbit shoot in New Zealand and has returned to England for undisclosed personal reasons. You may not have heard that New Zealander TV actor Dean O’Gorman will be replacing Kazinsky as the dwark Fili.
But that’s not the news. It was in the same news report — at TheHobbitMovie.com — that I learned about O’Gorman’s casting that I also discovered that Lee Pace has been cast to play the Elven King Thranduil. Jackson:
I’m also pleased to announce that Lee Pace will be playing the Elven King Thranduil. Casting these Tolkien stories is very difficult, especially the Elven characters, and Lee has always been our first choice for Thranduil. He’s going to be great. We loved his performance in a movie called “The Fall” a few years ago, and have been hoping to work with him since. When we were first discussing who would be right for Thranduil, Lee came into mind almost immediately.
Okay, that means that David Tennant won’t be the Elven King. But still: *squee*
