The Daily Stream becomes the Daily Scream for spooky season!
It was maybe the first slasher/zombie/splatter horror flick that felt like a part of the post-9/11 world, full of a chaotic, why-me panic and, at the same time, a kind of relief, like: Okay, this is it, the other shoe has dropped, I can let go that breath I’ve been holding for years. Twenty years later, I’m still haunted by Sarah Polley escaping the undead apocalypse in bloodied pajamas, barefoot, with nothing but her car keys in hand. I’d be very curious to hear how 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, Zack Snyder’s remake of George Romero’s horror classic, hits younger people, but for this Xer, it remains a watershed movie moment.
